1556 Florentine RougeCheek blush from Renaissance Florence! From the Ricettario Fiorentino, a professional handbook for apothecaries in the city of Florence, published 1556. We recreate a recipe for "Unguento di Minio", a highly pigmented red cream, scented with roses and myrtle. Here we make only one change the original contained beautiful yet toxic red cinnabar. We substitute with equally beautiful (and safe!) red ochre, one of the most ancient of cosmetic pigments.
