Copper ("Spinel"-twins and crystalsThis beautiful specimen of Native Copper from the Rocklands Mine hosts a wonderful combination of sharp, euhedral, crystals and elongated "Spinel" twins intergrown to create a display quality miniature. Several fine quality, smooth, defined dodecahedral and octahedral crystals of Copper can be seen from all sides. They show both smooth well formed positive faces and skeletal or "hoppered" negative faces, but they are highlighted by elongated "Spinel"

Calcite is not terribly common from the Sunnyside Mine

The upper portion of the crystal (near the termination) is in very good condition with only superficial nicks

but they are mostly opaque

and all of them have different terminations with one showing a basal pinacoid

Please keep in mind that this mineral typically forms in very thin needles that create radiating aggregates

TOP glassy luster and excellent gemminess

colorless spheres which are included with a small amount of orange iron oxide to give it the “blood vessel”-like inclusions

It’s also nearly a “floater” as there is only a small point of attachment

A very small nick on the top of the piece is the only spot of damage that I can see on the display side (the piece is incomplete on the back where it detached from the pocket wall)

This particular piece features an absolutely beautiful
