Triumph Herald Coupé (231)
Description
Triumph Herald Coupé (231)This classic British car was modelled by both Dinky and Corgi and is the perfect example of how differently each company approached their models in the early 1960s. Dinky chose the sensible two door saloon version, whereas Corgi modelled the rather racier fastback coupe. Furthermore, Corgi added an authentic lifting bonnet and a highly detailed engine including a removable air filter. When you factor in the Corgis carefully moulded red interior and
all the more so because some examples have a textured sunroof
Corgi 236 out-selling 255 by around two to one
the model went on to sell in numbers in excess of 760
It has the same iconic steering feature whereby the model’s front wheels steer left or right by turning the roof-mounted blue emergency light and chrome surround
the tail-gate was replaced by a winch and hook which was operated by turning a rubber tyre included as part of a clever mechanism
It was the first of several Citroën estate cars produced by Corgi in the 60s
Collecting all four colour variations is popular with collectors today
this 1:41 scale Mini Cooper was a very welcome new Mini casting
This is perfect for the MGA as it was the last of Corgi’s late-50s trio of sports cars alongside Corgi 300 (Austin Healey) and Corgi 301 (Triumph TR2)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was released in November 1968 to instant acclaim
