Kuro Karatsu Tokkuri Vase #2Kota Tanaka, a disciple of the esteemed Karatsu ware artist Nakagawa Shizenbo, has developed his own distinctive approach, drawing inspiration from his mentors techniques. His style is notably more detailed compared to Nakagawas bold aesthetic. The name of his kiln, "Bochugama," derived from the Bochu region, was created with input from Nakazato Takashi, who also personally inscribed the kiln mark still visible today. His wood fired creations feature
a coloration caused by natural pigments called anthocyanins
The translucent designs let the deep color of brewed tea shine through
